Hamilton City Closures – Resurfacing and Sharrows Installation

Safe Road Services’ night shift teams have been braving the cold weather throughout June of 2022 to undertake various large closures across Hamilton. SRS staff covered the closure between Clarkin Road and Tamihana Ave in Fairfield, and other locations throughout the city over the course of a few weeks. The River Road closure was in place for Downer teams to resurface the asphalt and install sharrows (meaning “share arrows”) on the Fairfield bridge. Sharrows tell people on bikes where on the road it is safest for them to ride – often in the middle of the lane.  This is so they can be most visible and/or avoid hazards like car doors. Downer teams were able to complete their works successfully and operate with full exclusion from road users and detours were implemented to ensure road users were able to navigate their way around the closure. Pedestrians were still able to utilise the footpaths to get through and Traffic Controllers were positioned to guide them. Another successful traffic management night operation for the Safe Road Services team!
